THE TIME IS NOW, THE THREAT IS REAL.
The Beacon of Hope Award, given annually at the Gala of Hope, has been renamed the Jeanne E. Walsh Beacon of Hope Award. While we cannot gather together for this special recognition as originally planned, after much thought and consideration, we realize there is no greater time then right now to celebrate the true impact of a Beacon of Hope.
Because of COVID-19, hope is currently in jeopardy, including 50% of our research funding.
This research funding crisis is scary. Society-funded researchers have contributed to nearly every major cancer research breakthrough, including the first ever successful chemotherapy treatment. We are so excited to announce, Dr. Jeremy Logue, Ph.D. of Albany Med received a $783,000 grant from ACS on September 1, 2020, to study the way cancer cells migrate to tissues. This is especially important as over 90% of cancer deaths are a result of cancer cells migrating from their origin.
2020 has presented us with some of the greatest challenges in our 107-year lifetime as an organization, but with our brightest Beacons like Jeanne Walsh lighting the path forward, investigators like Dr. Logue on our frontlines and supporters like you providing endless hope for families everywhere, we know that the fight against cancer will not be lost.
Thank you for your support,
